Superheroes

Camouflage, poison, armor, mimicry, smell - these are some of the “superhero” traits animals use to survive in nature. Which trick would you use and why?

Torin’s “Camouflage” turtle

August’s question was a hard one - it required a little stretch of the imagination, but that was one of my goals. While scientific facts are cool - I mean, octopuses use color changing skin cells to quickly hide or distract their prey! - I am also interested in creative ways that people can connect to the natural world. If the entry point for this connection is reached by imagining different realities, I can be content. It may help us recognize some of the traits we share with the animal world we are very much a part of. Or we can simply admire and respect the differences. Superheroes in movies and comics live in fantasy worlds, but they help readers to imagine strengths of human character. The cool things animals do to get along in this world help us to notice the wonders inherent in nature.
