First Day

Today was my first official visit to the Aquarium. I set up my table by the Unsalted Seas where there is a large touch pool full of 6 species of sturgeon (including the local lake sturgeon).

There were elementary school groups that came through during my time, which meant lots of fun and excited conversations. My prompt for the day was “what did you learn about sturgeon that surprised you?” Lots of similar responses about the sliminess of their skin and their enormous size.

I overheard some kids talking about how curious the sturgeon are. If you leave your two fingers in the water, they come up to you. In fact, “they are really nice, actually.”

I don’t know whether the things the visitors said are actually true or not but I got to thinking, I am not sure it actually matters. What is important is that they have those moments.
